The techniques employed during product design and development can be divided into Characterisation, Product Evaluation and Life Testing including HALT(Highly Accelerated Life Testing). Life tests are sometimes continued until the product is destroyed while clearly this would be undesirable for production units that need to be shipped to the customer where other techniques are used.
